An evening with choccywoccydoodah

Anna says I should probably get this written before I come crashing down from the ridiculous sugar high I’m on right now.  Why?  I might just have spent the evening as the guest of the wonderful people at Choccywoccydoodah at their brand new London shop just off Carnaby Street.

After being plied with with a champagne truffle milkshake and while sampling variously: melted chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie, macaroons and truffles I was able to have a bit of a chat with the wonderful Kat from Rock and Roll Bride, Sian from Love Illustrated, Charley the London Bride, Tigz Rice: burlesque and boudoir photographer; and the marvellous make-up artist at the Anna/Bean wedding, Elbie van Eeden (if I’ve missed anyone out I’m really sorry, but I’m still quite new to this hobnobbing business).

I was then presented with a ridiculously large slice of one of their cakes, which I suppose was half the point of me going.

The sponge was lovely and moist and the chocolate was delicious.  It is very, very rich though, so a little goes a long way.  Also, very chocolatey (quelle surprise), so if you’re not much of a chocolate fan then it’s probably not really for you (I’d probably wonder why you’re considering getting a cake from a place called Choccywoccydoodah though).

But if you do like chocolate, then there’s scarcely any better place to look for a wedding cake.  Or a centerpiece.  Or chocolates, or anything chocolate related.  I am reliably informed that everything you see covering the cakes is chocolate; no icing anywhere whatsoever.  While their more conventional cakes are festooned with flowers, they will design and make virtually anything you want.  Even robots.

Solid chocolate apparently. I'm told the best way to eat it is with a hammer and chisel

Even if you’ve already got your cake sorted out the cafe at their new shop is a nice little spot to stop for a bit of cake while you’re out shopping, and for the gents I’d recommend checking out Peckham Rye just across the street.

If you’re still needing persuading, or just want a bit of a look behind the scenes, they’ve got their own TV series on Really (a channel which we sadly do not get in the Anna/Bean house) on Tuesdays at 8pm.
