Well hello Saturday

Ahh Saturdays.

There have been a few thoughts clattering around my brain this week which haven’t made it into my main posts but I really want to talk about. Perhaps every Saturday shall become a little space for the little titbits? What do you think?

Well here we go.

♠ This is hilarious. Oh Suri.

♠ I’m almost sure I read somewhere it is/was Cervical Cancer Screening Week. Whether it is or it isn’t I guess this is my little opportunity to ask you to remind yourself and/or loved ones that it is important to have a smear test. No, it’s not the best experience of your life but honestly it could save your life. Take the morning off, plan to do something fun afterwards (or perhaps give blood to be truly virtuous) and grin and bear it. If it’s your first time, just breathe and relax, it’s not as bad as you think. I promise. Last time I had mine, me and the nurse dissolved into fits of giggles for no apparent reason. The waiting room outside shot me some confused looks when I walked out. (Was that oversharing? Hmm. Perhaps read my last point too!)

♠ Whilst we’re on the medical topics – please do give blood. The blood stocks will be taking a hit real soon because of the summer holidays and what not. I’ll come and hold your hand if you happen to be in London.

♠ I try to read more and more, but when I try, I find I read even less. It seems to turn it into work or me worrying that I’m not reading the “right” things. There are writers out there who I admire greatly but because I don’t come from a particularly creative background I don’t see how they make the words all delicious and pouffy. Yes their words are like peonies.  What do you love to read?

♠ This cinemagraph from the rather talented Sweet Little Photographs made me smile. I just love the whole shoot. Simple but not just sweet. One day I will dance with a giant balloon.

♠ Recently there has been discussion about whether or not to talk about yourself on a blog built for business. I guess, for me, in a world of perfect wedding blogs, which say that now you’ve found your future husband or wife all you need to worry about is matching napkins to bridesmaid dresses, I like to show you that it’s okay for things not to be okay.

I’m so happy for you if every day is perfection (could you perhaps tell us what your secret is) but I know that for the rest of us life can be tough. Of course, life is often good and well there are pretties for then but when you need support I really hope your know you can turn to us. We don’t have the answer to everything but we truly want to help. Whether you need to be anonymous or not. Just know you are not alone.

We love it when you feel you can share with us and it seems almost rude not to share something too. Almost as if we are asking you to make all of the emotional leaps without any sense of trust from us. It’s a reciprocal relationship and the real life element of planning your wedding and indeed continuing with your life afterwards is what’s so very interesting and worthwhile for me.

So can I share a few things? Look away now if you are not so inclined.

♠ Well the most exciting thing to happen is that we’ve adopted a boy, a boy cat called Bertie. I’m a little in love with him. He’s quite an old boy but has had a rough few months and is only just getting back on his feet. He just makes me smile and recently anything that can do that is a winner in my book.

Want to see a photo? Well this is my sneaky chance to get you to follow me on Instagram where I’m farfromtheweddingcrowd because I can’t seem to load any pictures from my phone right now. Bertie is there in all his bedraggled glory!

♠ As for me you know it’s been a tough few weeks. I’m trying to write about them but things get a little too raw. It is a very difficult balance to strike. I don’t want to be a sadsack every day! Indeed, I’d like to think I wasn’t. However if I do get a little to melancholy do remind me that weddings are meant to be mostly joyous occasions!

♠ I also made rather exciting meringues for the Jubilee. I may do a little DIY post if you’re interested. I am quite tempted to do a few DIY posts in the future. I’m certainly not the most crafty but I at least like to have a go. You will certainly not find perfection in those posts but a lady with aspirations of not making everything look awful!

Tomorrow I shall fill you in on a couple of the lovely weddingy places I’ve been over the past few months and whet your appetite for a little more wedding fun.

Have a wonderful weekend. I’m off to surprise someone with smiles and hugs. I’m rather excited.
