Hello Saturday lovelies,
Did you enjoy the Olympic “spectacle”? Wasn’t it fabulous/ridiculous* *Delete as appropriate/as the mood takes.
Is what I wrote on Thursday.
Hmm. How wrong was I with all my cynicism! I was determined not to enjoy it.
Danny Boyle, you choreographed an ode to Britain that was beautiful. Thank you.
We are a wonderful mulitcutural unique nation. Indeed I read that we are the only country to have a have permanent resident from every one of the 204 countries represented. Aren’t we fabulous!
I got so excited I got blocked by Twitter for tweeting too much. So I had to stop tweeting just as the athletes started to parade!
So where do I start?!
From the Queen’s perfect comic timing with James Bond. I totally thought there would be a deleted cut scene of Craig turning over in bed to light a cigarette! The proud Chelsea Pensioners. The beautiful fiery Olympic Rings. The flame, oh the flame! Thank goodness it was Sir Steve Redgrave, a true Olympian! I could go on for months I fear but crumbs my cynicism of 7 years disappeared when I saw those corgis. Then the NHS and to top it off the perfect British gentleman, Tim Berners-Lee.
It was almost as if Danny Boyle was just writing it for us and as a “little” stab at the Government. Yes, this is what makes Britain great, stop messing with it!
(Oh and the Czechs with wellies and brollies – very funny!)
Sport and me.
So I’m now no longer an Olympic grumpy face but I still thought I might share in my favourite websites (in between cheering for Rebecca Adlington obviously, how excited must Adore by Chloe be and well now I’m bloody excited too!) But, you know, these are goodies too!
Enjoy!
- Suri’s Burn Book has just got that little bit more interesting!
- I loved Fashion Industry Confessions. Fashion is art. Fashion is also quite bitchy.
- The Couveteur - oh yes, I covet thee. Yes I know I don’t need all the stuff but that doesn’t really stop me from wanting all the stuff.
- For the sheer insanity – Life! Death! Top Tips!
- Letters of Note - sage and interesting advice.
- Advanced Style - this is what it’s like to be a rich old lady.
- and obviously Pinterest.
Also because this is sort of exactly what we are trying to say but are trying to avoid saying it like this. We do actually care! Thank you, The Onion, thank you.
What are your favourite sites? I’d love to add them to my never ending list of places to be inspired and also giggle.
